Lofi Girl Animated Music Video Loops
Lofi Girl approached Sundstedt Animation to create a series of five different animated loops to accompany songs for their artists.

The Challenge
Lofi Girl, a popular YouTube channel that streams lo-fi hip-hop music for relaxation and studying, approached Sundstedt Animation to create a series of 5 Ultra-HD (4K) animated loops to accompany songs for their music. The challenge was to create visually interesting animations that matched Lofi Girl’s aesthetic and style, without distracting from the music, and could loop seamlessly without feeling repetitive.
The Solution
To tackle the challenge, I started by researching Lofi Girl’s existing content to understand their aesthetic. I then worked closely with the client to refine and perfect the animations I made. This project didn’t require storyboards as it was focused single animated loops. The client provided the source illustrations for these 5 songs loops. I had some freedom in what things to animate, add motion to, and adding effects such as lighting, particle effects and other subtle details.
I rigged some characters and various objects to allow for subtle animation. When any background elements were missing, or partly missing, I manually painted in those and Photoshoped underlying/covered elements to be able to make the 2.5D animated loops (generating a sense of depth into the scene by using multi-plane techniques). This allowed me to create visually engaging and seamless loops that matched Lofi Girl’s vibe.
The Results
The final result was a series of five 4K animated loops that perfectly matched Lofi Girl’s aesthetic and style. The loops, optimized for various devices, have been viewed over 380,000 times on YouTube to date, that has over 547K channel subscribers. The animations have been praised by Lofi Girl’s audience for adding depth and interest to the music. The client was thrilled with the results, commending me for the creativity, communication, and attention to detail. Like their other 547K YouTube subsribers, you can watch the animated looping music videos, and listen to the chilled out beats, perfect both for work, studying or relaxing.
