The Challenge

To create a short series of animations about ‘becoming a social worker’ to attract top quality new recruits into the social work sector, specifically to work with children, young people and their families and to communicate the values, attitudes, abilities skills and knowledge needed in social work. The client came to us to produce this series of three animated explainer videos for mobile devices for BASW – The British Association of Social Workers is the largest professional association of registered social workers in the United Kingdom. The client wanted us to work on the Becoming A Social Worker project pieces to utilize our animated video production skills and treatment.

The Solution

This film in the series features ‘Eddie’. He is an independent social worker, who left the music business at the age of 30 and began a career in social work. We created a concept look for the animated videos based on the scripts provided to create three high impact videos featuring testimony from real social workers, using animated actors. Each animated video is featuring a different scenario and is based on interviews with the social workers. We used our skills and treatment to create three engaging animations that combine voice over and animation and works easily and displays clearly on mobile devices and online. The initial design concepts and the finished animated videos were approved by the end client and used on BASW website pages.

It was also uploaded on two separate YouTube Channels, the BASW UK YouTube Channel and the SfCDUK YouTube Channel. SfCDUK – Skills for Care and Development (SfC&D) is the sector skills council for employers providing social work, social care and services for children. The SfCDUK YouTube Channel has been developed as part of the Mobile Knowledge and Learning Solutions project. It provides more information about how to use mobile technologies to support workforce development. The three animated explainer videos have total of 7650 views to date.
